Jack Jones, a former USC cornerback whose off-field trouble forced him off the team and into a junior college for a year, announced he will attend ASU this year, according to Sun Devil Source.

As a highly-touted freshman in 2016, Jones received playing time for the Trojans. He was a starter as sophomore and had four interceptions.

His time on the USC team was cut short when he was ruled academically ineligible in May 2018, according to 247Sports. A month later, he was arrested and charged with breaking into a Panda Express at 3 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Times.

The charge was reduced to a misdemeanor as part of a plea deal, and Jones served 45 days on house arrest, according to Sun Devil Source.

He enrolled at Moorpark College last year to boost his grades, according to the OC Register, which helped him regain NCAA eligibility for the coming year.

Jones announced he will attend ASU and reunite with his former high school coach.

Jones graduated from Long Beach Poly in 2016 under current ASU linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator Antonio Pierce. Pierce was the Long Beach Poly head coach from 2014-17.

Out of high school, Jones was ranked as a five-star player and the No. 19 player in the country by the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Jones has two years of eligibility remaining. Starting cornerbacks Kobe Williams and Chase Lucas are returning, so he wouldn’t be relied upon immediately if he’s not in football shape after missing the last two years, including USC’s 2018 spring practices.

Last season, ASU was No. 71 in passing yards per game allowed last year at 233.8.
