The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Tuesday they had recalled infielder Ildemaro Vargas from Triple-A Reno.
In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Bo Takahashi was optioned to Double-A Jackson.
Vargas, 28, has gone up and down between the D-backs and Reno Aces this season. In 70 games with the major league club this year, Vargas is batting .260 with seven doubles, five home runs and 20 RBI in 179 plate appearances. He has a .296 on-base percentage and a .687 OPS.
This is Vargas’ third season in which he’s seen some playing time with the big league club. He also got major league at-bats in 2017 and ’18, but only across 26 in two seasons.
In Reno this year, Vargas is hitting a whopping .403 with a 1.025 OPS in 28 games.
Takahashi, 22, was recalled on Aug. 18 but did not make in appearance while he was on the D-backs’ active roster. He owns a 3.87 ERA in Double-A Jackson this season.
