The Arizona Cardinals have made a move to add some depth to the defensive line.

Arizona traded safety Rudy Ford to the Philadelphia Eagles for defensive tackle Bruce Hector pending the passing of physicals by both players, the team announced Thursday.

An undrafted rookie last year, Hector appeared in eight games for the Eagles. He had two tackles, both assisted.

In exchange, the Cardinals gave up 2017 sixth-round pick Ford. He played 10 games as a rookie and 13 last year, starting one in 2018. Ford had nine tackles as a Cardinal, all of them in 2018.

On the unofficial depth chart, Ford was listed as the fourth strong safety, behind D.J. Swearinger, Josh Shaw and Jonathan Owens.

The defensive line has bigger question marks. In July, the Cardinals released Robert Nkemdiche, who had been arrested in June. Darius Philon, who signed this offseason, was cut Aug. 10, the day after he was charged for one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

In the search for depth, the Cardinals have worked out defensive tackles Clinton McDonald and Corey Liuget, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Neither player has agreed to a deal.
