Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Robbie Ray will return from the 10-day IL and start Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers, the team announced.
In a corresponding move, the team optioned right-handed pitcher Joel Payamps to Triple-A Reno following Saturday’s game.
Ray has gone 10-7 with a 3.99 ERA in 26 starts and 142.0 innings this season.
Ray was initially placed on the injured list after leaving his last start with a right lower back spasm.
During his Aug. 14 appearance, he pitched two innings. He attempted to warm-up for the third inning but was unable to continue.
Payamps made two appearances in relief for the D-backs. He tallied four innings pitched, allowed four hits, two runs and walked 3. He struck out 3 batters faced.
In Triple-A Reno this year, Payamps has gone 2-2 with a 4.21 ERA through 36.1 innings pitched.
