The Arizona Cardinals have a new franchise signal-caller.

Kyler Murray entered the NFL in a unique situation. Drafted No. 1 by a team deploying an Air Raid-styled offense similar to the system he ran at Oklahoma, the 2018 Heisman winner begins his pro journey as a starting quarterback operating an offense that, for the most part he knows well.

So, we started a podcast to follow the narratives around Murray and head coach Kliff Kingsbury, whose learning curve and NFL career arc is in lock-step with his quarterback.

The K1 Podcast, co-hosted by former Arizona State quarterback Rudy Carpenter and ArizonaSports.com reporter and editor Kevin Zimmerman, aims to take dive deeps into Murray’s play each week.

Our first episode comes after Murray stumbled out of the gates before rallying his Cardinals from a 24-6 deficit into a 27-all overtime tie with the Detroit Lions in Week 1.

Murray went 29-of-54 for 308 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

The first three quarters included plays that looked typical for a rookie quarterback in his first game. But after Kingsbury went away from his admittedly “too cute” gameplan, the rookie found a rhythm.

What did we see out of Kingsbury’s offense and Murray’s mental fortitude to recover? How does that set up the rest of the season, which continues next Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens?

That and more were discussed on the first episode of the K1 Podcast.
