Arizona State Sun Devils quarterback Jayden Daniels and defensive lineman Jermayne Lole were named as the Pac-12 Freshman and Defensive Line Player of the Week, respectively, the conference announced on Monday.
Daniels led the Sun Devils on the 11 play, 75-yard game-winning touchdown drive in ASU’s 10-7 road win over No. 18 Michigan State on Saturday.
The freshman completed 15 of his 26 pass attempts for 140 yards and rushed 12 times for 37 yards (3.1 yards per carry), one yard less than running back Eno Benjamin, ASU’s leading rusher on the day.
Michigan State came into Saturday’s game ranked No. 13 in total defense and No. 1 in rushing defense, allowing an average of 216 total yards and -3 rushing yards per game, respectively.
Daniels didn’t turn the ball over against the Spartans either, who also came into the contest averaging three takeaways per game (ranked No. 8 in nation).
Lole did his damage on the defensive side of the ball.
The sophomore led the team with eight tackles and had Arizona State’s lone sack on the day.
ASU has now only allowed seven points for the third consecutive game, all of which have solely come in the fourth quarter.
Michigan State was averaging 39.5 points per game prior to the Sun Devils’ stout defensive performance.
The victory also resulted in ASU’s first appearance in the AP Top 25 this season at No. 24, while MSU was ousted from the list entirely.
