Arizona Cardinals running back Chase Edmonds tuning out noise

Arizona Cardinals running back Chase Edmonds made some noise for the team in their road win against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

But when it comes to the chatter around his performance, he’s not paying much attention.

“I just try to come in and just find ways to improvise and find ways just to help this offense, get momentum and make some plays out there,” Edmonds told Bickley & Marotta on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station on Monday. “My goal coming into this year was just to show that we could have a dynamic backfield in Arizona, and it’s not just David Johnson and to make a name for myself.”

Johnson led the team in receiving for the second straight week with three passes for 65 yards. Behind quarterback Kyler Murray, he was second on the team in rushing with 17 carries for 91 yards—his highest rushing total of the season.

Coming into Sunday’s game, Edmonds had 14 touches for 84 yards during the first four games. Against the Bengals, Edmonds had three passes for 18 yards and eight rushing attempts for 68 yards, which was a career high in rushing yards for Edmonds.

He also notched the longest touchdown run of his career with a 37-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Edmonds said the Cardinals are a dangerous team when they’re able to run the ball.

“It helps the offense out and it helps David out, the feature back, in the long run. You’ve gotta find somebody that can take some touches off the main guy,” Edmonds said.

Alongside Johnson, Edmonds has a chance to contribute to head coach Kliff Kingsbury’s offensive plan which has been key in the running backs’ success.

“Coach Kliff does a great job with designing unique plays for us, and what I always tell people is that he just does a great job of finding what each of his weapons is good at and what their really unique talents are and exploiting them,” Edmonds said.

Through the first five weeks of the season, Johnson has posted 264 rushing yards and Edmonds has contributed 127 rushing yards. Edmonds said the way the two work together creates a dynamic backfield.

“It’s a long season, and I think we’ve got something good that we can build on and just find ways to make plays out there,” Edmonds said.
