TEMPE, Ariz. — Arizona Cardinals starting receiver Christian Kirk warmed up with his teammates on Wednesday during the open portion of practice just more than a week after suffering a serious-looking ankle injury against the Seattle Seahawks.

That could give him a good shot at playing Sunday for a Week 6 home game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Also back at Arizona practice Wednesday was rotation receiver Damiere Byrd (hamstring), who has missed the last two games against Seattle and Cincinnati. Rookie defensive end Zach Allen (stinger) and starting cornerback Tramaine Brock (shoulder) were also participating in the early part of practice.

Meanwhile, running back David Johnson worked on the side after a back injury limited him during the Cardinals’ 26-23 win over the Bengals on Sunday. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury said the starting back would be a gametime decision, assuming he does not progress to practice in the next two days.

“We’re always going to make sure that player safety comes first, make sure that he can play full speed,” Kingsbury said.

“He gets our system and we can plug him in day-of and feel good about him executing at a high level.”

Missing during practice were veterans Corey Peters and Terrell Suggs.

Receiver Larry Fitzgerald was also sitting out practice but present, also in an apparent veteran’s day off.
