Kyler Murray keeps impressing.

The Arizona Cardinals rookie became the first quarterback in the Super Bowl era to throw 20 or more completions in each of his first six games. Murray reached that point with a 27-of-37 performance against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

He threw for 340 yards and three scores without a turnover or a sack taken in the 34-33 victory in Week 6.

The Cardinals advanced to 2-3-1, and while the rookie keeps progressing, it’s the evolving state of the team around him that is helping him and head coach Kliff Kingsbury gain traction. David Johnson and Chase Edmonds have grown into a dynamic duo at running back, while the tight ends have quietly entered into the fold.

This week on the K1 Podcast, co-hosts Rudy Carpenter and Kevin Zimmerman discussed the play-calling that is making life easy on Murray and how important it is that Murray is impressing in the easier part of the schedule. They also consider where Kingsbury and Murray have room to grow together.

Here’s what else was discussed this week.

2:00 — When the Cardinals aren’t off schedule, what have we seen? What has Kingsbury done to enhance his play-calling? Rudy doesn’t think personnel groupings matter so much as what Arizona is doing with its players in given situations.

6:49 — On how Arizona used deception and personnel, even with rookie Andy Isabella on big gains from Johnson and tight end Maxx Williams.

7:55 — It’s not about the stats. What matters is the threat of the run.

9:08 — The Cardinals are finding their individual roles, and they spread the ball around with nine different players catching passes from Murray.

11:58 — How important is this soft part of the Arizona schedule?

15:47 — One sign that Murray is still trying to earn Kingsbury’s trust.

18:25 — Murray’s two key third-down runs where he took the yardage and got out of bounds. Where is the line between being protecting himself versus making the needed play?
