Arizona State wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and quarterback Jayden Daniels both had banner days against Washington State on Saturday, and for their efforts, they received weekly awards on Monday.
Arizona’s Lucas Havrisik Jr. also took home a weekly award.
Aiyuk was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week after hauling in seven catches for 196 yards and three touchdowns, including one that came on an 86-yard catch-and-run. That was the eighth-longest pass play in Sun Devil history.
“Aiyuk was fabulous,” head coach Herm Edwards said after the win. “He caught the ball on the slant and just kind of ran away with it. When you throw a slant you’re not expecting an 86-yard touchdown, you’re expecting maybe 10 or 12 yards. He was good enough to score.”
Jayden Daniels was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week after his last-minute, 17-yard touchdown run gave Arizona State the lead with less than a minute to go in the fourth quarter. He finished the day 26-for-36 on passing for 363 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.
Monday marks the third time in seven weeks that Daniels has won the award. ASU has nine total player of the week honors in 2019 in the categories of offensive, special teams, offensive line, defensive line and freshman. The Sun Devils yet to get a Defensive Player of the Week award.
Havrisik was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for the first time this season after going 2-for-2 on field goals from distances of 50 yards and 31 yards. His 50-yard field goal on Saturday against Washington was the fourth time in his career he’s made a field goal of 50 yards or longer in distance.
Havrisik also was 5-for-5 in touchbacks, which put him at 84.21% on the season in that category, in which he ranks fifth in the country.
