Arizona State freshman quarterback Jayden Daniels has earned yet another weekly honor following his clutch touchdown run in the Sun Devils’ 38-34 win over Washington State on Saturday.

Daniels was named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week on Tuesday, a day after earning Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, Rose Bowl Game Pac-12 Player of the Week and other honors.

The Maxwell Award is given annually to the college football player of the year. They have a weekly award, which last week went to Texas Tech QB Jett Duffey.

On Saturday, Daniels completed 26 of 36 pass attempts for 363 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. On the game-winning drive, Daniels completed seven of nine pass attempts for 58 yards before his own 17-yard run game ASU the deciding lead with 34 seconds left.

“Then the last drive, to be quite honest, I walked over to Jayden like I always do, I said ‘Hey,’ he says, ‘I know,’” head coach Herm Edwards said. “I said ‘Well, go do it. This is it. There’s no more. We won’t get the ball back.’ He says, ‘Coach, I got you.’”

The next day, the Sun Devils were ranked No. 17 in the country.

“That’s what he does,” Edwards said of the game-winner. “He gets it. He can’t do it all the time, but he’s done it a couple times when we needed it, and that’s who he is. And I trust the guy. I just trust him.”
