DLo: Devin Booker, Karl-Anthony Towns and himself will play together

Oct 17, 2019, 10:59 AM | Updated: 11:00 am

Devin Booker was among three players featured on the cover of the 2019-20 NBA Preview edition of SLAM, a basketball magazine that Booker has graced the cover of once before.

The cover also featured D’Angelo Russell and Karl-Anthony Towns, two of Booker’s close friends who both have previously been part of rumors linking them to the Suns.

Of course, those deals never came to fruition, and Russell now plays for the Golden State Warriors while Towns remains with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

But Russell said in the cover story that he, Towns and Booker will all play together one day.

“We gotta do this again, when we’re all on the same team,” Russell jokes toward the end of the day. “Nah, don’t cut it,” he says to our rolling cameras. “Y’all got it on footage. When we’re all on the same team—I ain’t gonna tell you which team because I don’t know—we’re gonna do this again.”

There was also a billboard campaign in Phoenix over the summer lobbying the Suns to acquire Russell.

Russell’s comment wasn’t featured in a 10-minute video released by SLAM, but that video did feature the trio dishing on a variety of topics.

“My first memory of Karl, I was at NBA Top 100 camp,” Booker said in a SLAM video. “And we had always heard about him. I had never seen him play, and I still didn’t see him play there. He showed up the camp, he took all the gear and he went home. He didn’t play not one game. He didn’t play one game.”

Everyone laughed. Towns later said in the video that he did play two games at that camp.

Russell said he met Booker at a camp, too. In a full-length interview video, the trio discussed memories together, breaking into the NBA and more.

The cover features Booker wearing a throwback Charles Barkley jersey, while Russell appears to be wearing a Tim Hardaway jersey and Towns is wearing a Kevin Garnett jersey.

The Suns get their season underway on Oct. 23. Phoenix plays the Warriors for the first time on Oct. 30 on the road, while their first game against the T-Wolves is on Nov. 23, also on the road.
