The Arizona Coyotes have announced they have called up defenseman Aaron Ness from the AHL Tucson Roadrunners on Saturday.

The move comes after defenseman Jordan Oesterle was taken out of Thursday’s game at home against Nashville due to being hit with a puck in the back of the head.

Oesterle was listed as day-to-day and has now been placed on the injured reserve list.

Ness was the Coyotes’ next option as a defensive replacement because Kyle Capobianco and Ilya Lyubushkin have already been added to the roster following a lower-body injury to Niklas Hjalmarsson.

Last season as a member of the Hershey Bears, Ness led all AHL defensemen with 55 points, five of which were goals.

Ness signed a two-year, two-way contract with Arizona on July 1.

This year with Tucson he has played three games, contributing one point off of an assist and has a plus/minus of two.

In his NHL career, Ness has registered 1-5-6 and 22 menalty minutes.
