Arizona Cardinals offensive tackle D.J. Humphries is playing in his fourth season with the team and plans on extending his tenure far into the future.

On Monday, Humphries told 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s Burns & Gambo that he plans on spending his career in a Cardinals uniform.

“I want to retire a Cardinal,” Humphries said. “I think what I’ve been putting on film is just trying to show them that I’m going to be a Cardinal for life.

“That’s what my goal is. That’s all I’ve been trying to do since I came into the league. I never wanted to be a guy that bounces around. I always wanted to establish who I was in one place and stick there. I think Arizona is the perfect place for me.”

The 6-foot-5, 307-pound lineman is passionate about his role with the team, so much so he hasn’t thought about his upcoming free agency in 2020.

“Like I said, my plan is to be a Cardinal my whole life,” he said.

“I haven’t even planned for free agency. Like my dad always told me, ‘You handle what’s in front of you then the next step will take care of itself. The way you handle what’s in front of you will take care of the next step.’”

He believes if he keeps playing solid football, the next step in his career will come to fruition the way he wants it to.

“I retire a Cardinal and that’s exactly what I want to do, and I’ll be able to do that,” Humphries explained to the show hosts. “I just got to keep doing what I’m doing.”

Since he was drafted out of Florida in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft, Humphries has played in 34 games, starting each one of them.
