If you ever find yourself in Cayuga County, New York, not far from Syracuse, you’ll be in a place that has its very own day to honor Diamondbacks outfielder Tim Locastro.

That’s because the county legislature declared Oct. 22 ‘Tim Locastro Day’ on Tuesday, honoring the speedy outfielder and native of Auburn, New York, which is in Cayuga County.

The news was reported by The Citizen’s Ryan Franklin, a newspaper reporter in Auburn.

Franklin’s photo shows Locastro, evidently at the legislature’s session.

“The fastest man in baseball” moniker given to Locastro is corroborated by the Diamondbacks, whose own Twitter account posted a graphic of Locastro that clocked him at 30.7 feet per second — believable, if you’ve ever seen Locastro run the bases. The D-backs’ social post read in part, “It’s true, by the way.”

While not a traditional ‘star’ player, Locastro won over fans in his debut season with the Diamondbacks this year by showing grit, hustle and a knack for getting hit by pitches. He had a .357 on-base percentage as he was hit by 22 pitches in only 250 plate appearances in 2019. He hit .250 at the plate with 12 doubles and two triples, posting a .697 OPS.

He also had 17 stolen bases.

Before this season, Locastro had only 21 games of major league experience across two seasons, both with the Dodgers.

The 27-year-old Locastro was picked in the 13th round of the 2013 draft by the Blue Jays out of Ithaca College, which is just south of Cayuga County. Before college, he went to Auburn High School, just a couple miles from the Cayuga County Legislature.
