College baseball fans can welcome back a cross-town rivalry starting this season.
Grand Canyon University announced its 2020 baseball schedule on Friday, and revealed they’ll play Arizona State for the first time since 1999. They’ll also play the University of Arizona as well.
“That’s a big deal for us,” head coach Andy Stankiewicz said in a press release on Friday. “We’re excited that we’re allowed to play one there and one here (against each team). We hope that can be a continual thing.”
Grand Canyon will host Arizona State on April 21 and Arizona on May 12. They’ll travel to Tempe to play the Sun Devils on April 7 and make the trip to Tucson on April 14.
They’ll see three other teams from the Pac-12. They host Oregon Feb. 18 and travel to Stanford on Feb. 28 to March 1 and to USC on April 28
The Lopes regular season kicks off Feb. 14 with a three-game series against Oklahoma State in Phoenix.
Their regular season schedule closes out with a three-game away series at Northern Colorado on May 14 to 16. Then, they’ll play in the WAC Tournament at Hohokam Stadium in Mesa May 20th to May 24.
The team finished the 2019 season 36-24 before losing to Sacramento State in the WAC Championship game.
