The University of Arizona football team will pay homage to its program’s history on Saturday when the Wildcats host Oregon State for homecoming.
The team unveiled the uniforms on Twitter on Monday.
UArizona’s uniforms will feature navy jerseys with white numbers that have a red trim. The white pants feature a red “Cats” logo on the hip. Additionally, the Wildcats will sport white helmets with a red, white and blue stripe down the middle.
The uniform combination mostly honors former head coach Dick Tomey, who passed away in May at 80 years old after battling lung cancer, and his “Desert Swarm” defense.
During his time as the head coach at UArizona, Tomey amassed a 95-64-4 record from 1987 to 2000. His 95 wins are the most in school history. He also tallied a 4-3 record in bowl game appearances.
His players included 20 All-America honors, 43 All-Conference honors and four Pac-10 Defensive Players of the year.
He also coached three players who went on to be elected to the College Football Hall of Fame — Tedy Bruschi, Rob Waldrop and Chuck Cecil.
UArizona kicks off on Saturday against Oregon State at 1:30 p.m.
