Arizona State football redshirt junior quarterback Dillon Sterling-Cole, who is transferring from ASU, shared a farewell message to fans, coaches and teammates on Twitter Wednesday morning.

Sterling-Cole, who lost the starting job to freshman Jayden Daniels before the start of the season, still has a year of eligibility remaining.

His Sun Devil career began in 2016 when he appeared in 11 games, making his first career start at Oregon. He became just the fifth freshman in ASU history to start a game at quarterback. During that game, Sterling-Cole completed 21 of 38 passes for 302 yards, one passing touchdown and one rushing touchdown.

Despite seeing some time his freshman year, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound Sterling-Cole has only appeared in four total games over the last two seasons.

Sterling-Cole’s departure leaves the program with four quarterback options: Daniels, Ethan Long, Trenton Bourguet and Joey Yellen.

Although he is entering the transfer portal, Sterling-Cole plans to stay at ASU and graduate in December.
