Former Arizona Diamondback Zack Greinke wins Silver Slugger Award
Major League Baseball announced on Thursday that former Arizona Diamondback Zack Greinke won the 2019 Silver Slugger Award.
Despite being traded to the Houston Astros of the American League in July, Greinke’s body of work at the plate in a D-backs uniform this season was enough to crown him as the league’s best hitting pitcher.
The 35-year-old slashed .271/.300/.583 thanks to his 13 hits, three home runs, eight RBI, seven runs, 11 walks and .883 OPS.
The award is Greinke’s second of his career.
His first came in back in 2013 when the right-hander was still a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Of the 18 award recipients, Greinke is one of just four to be 30 years old or older.
Other notable Silver Slugger Award winners include Dodgers outfielder Cody Bellinger, Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story and Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout, who is receiving the award for the seventh time at the age of 27.
