Mark your calendars, Sun Devil fans: the Florida Gators are going to play Arizona State in a home-in-home series in a little less than a decade from now.

The two schools agreed to a home-and-home series starting in 2028, ASU announced on Tuesday. The first game is on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2028 at Sun Devil Stadium. The second game will be either Sept. 6 or Sept. 13, 2031 in Gainesville, Fla.

The two teams have never played each other in football.

Football-aspiring Arizonans and Floridians who are currently nine years old have something to look toward. Jokes aside, scheduling non-conference opponents years in advance of the games is not uncommon. For example, Ole Miss and Virginia Tech have a meeting scheduled for 2037.

“This agreement with the University of Florida provides our fan base with yet another elite series with a Power 5 opponent,” athletic director Ray Anderson said in a statement. “The addition of Florida complements our future schedules, which already include series with LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, Mississippi State and BYU.  We are proud of our future football schedules and of the fact that we can produce quality and interesting matchups for our fan base to enjoy.”

This year, the Sun Devils finished up the second half of a home-and-home against Michigan State. Next year, ASU plays BYU at home before playing them on the road in 2021.

The latest non-conference games the school has scheduled right now are against Texas, which will be played in 2032 and 2033.
