Arizona Wildcats head coach Sean Miller announced Friday that he had dismissed guard Devonaire Doutrive from the basketball team for a violation of team rules.

“He will continue to receive academic aid and support through the remainder of the current semester. We wish him well in the next steps of his academic and athletic career,” Miller’s statement read.

The sophomore guard had been suspended for the first two games of the season for a violation of team rules but returned to play in each of the Wildcats’ last three games. Coming off the bench, he averaged 6.3 points and 3.3 rebounds in 17 minutes per outing while shooting 43% from the floor.

The 6-foot-5 Doutrive was a four-star high school prospect, according to 247Sports. He appeared in 26 games last season, shooting 45.6% overall and 9-for-20 from beyond the arc.

As a freshman, Doutrive most notably hit a putback that won Arizona a road game at Oregon State.

Doutrive entered the transfer portal in the offseason but ultimately decided to return to Arizona for his sophomore season.

He faced a tall task of carving out a more significant role with freshmen Nico Mannion and Josh Green, transfer Jemarl Baker Jr., plus seniors Dylan Smith and Max Hazzard vying for minutes on the perimeter.

Arizona has started 5-0 on the year and is coming off a 71-64 win over South Dakota State.

Doutrive played 19 minutes, going 1-for-6 from the floor, in his final game with the Wildcats.
