Arizona State freshman quarterback Jayden Daniels was named the Walter Camp FBS National Offensive Player of the Week, the Walter Camp Football Foundation announced on Sunday.
Daniels is coming off of a 408-yard, three-touchdown performance in ASU’s 31-28 upset win over No. 6 Oregon on Saturday night.
The freshman was nearly perfect in the first half, going 12-for-14 for 183 yards and a score.
He also broke Rudy Carpenter’s single-season school record for the most passing yards by a true freshman (2,273 yards in 2005).
Daniels followed up with an even better second half.
The freshman quarterback tossed for 217 yards and two touchdown passes, the second of which was an 81-yarder to senior wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to give ASU a 24-21 lead with 3:54 left in the game.
Daniels has now thrown for three scores in three consecutive games, the first Sun Devil to do so since Taylor Kelly in 2013.
The 400-yard passing performance is also Arizona State’s first since Mike Bercovici last accomplished the feat in 2016.
