Arizona Cardinals players embrace Salute to Service game

Dec 1, 2019, 12:20 PM

As Arizona Cardinals players prepare to take the field against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, some went the extra mile for the team’s Salute to Service game.

Cardinals linebacker Dennis Gardeck arrived to the stadium sporting a Pat Tillman jersey.

Linebacker Haason Reddick also arrived to the stadium rocking this year’s Salute to Service jersey with Tillman’s number. The jersey features the American flag and Salute to Service patches on the sleeves.

Tillman previously played for the Cardinals before leaving the NFL to enlist in the United States Army.

The team’s uniforms for the game feature nods as well, including a No. 40 sticker on the helmets.

According to the team, offensive tackle Brett Toth will administer the Oath of Enlistment ceremony to 50 future U.S. Army soldiers from the U.S. Army Phoenix Recruiting Battalion station follow warm ups.

Toth is an active duty U.S. Army 1st Lieutenant who is an assistant instructor of Military Science for the ASU ROTC program.

The NFL’s Salute to Service initiative is a year-round effort to honor, empower and connect the nation’s service members, veterans and their families.
