The Arizona State Sun Devils picked up a big Territorial Cup win over the Arizona Wildcats on Saturday, 24-14, but ASU cornerback Jack Jones won something on Monday.

The redshirt junior was awarded with the Pac-12 Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week honor.

In the win over Arizona, Jones had six tackles and two interceptions. It was the first time an ASU player had two interceptions in a game since Gump Hayes did it against Patrick Mahomes in 2016.

Jones’ second-quarter interception against the Wildcats helped ASU get a field goal to make the score 7-6 UA going into the half. He made another pick in the second half to keep Arizona’s offense off the field en route to the Sun Devils’ win.

Jones, a Long Beach, Calif. native, originally played at USC before leaving the program and attending Moorpark College. He still had two years of eligibility remaining and came to ASU, where he’s since played all 12 games, registering 43 total tackles with three picks, 16 passes defensed and a forced fumble.

At USC, Jones played 13 games in 2017 — his last season with the Trojans — getting 40 tackles with four interceptions and seven passes defensed. He also had a forced fumble and fumble recovery there.

Eight different ASU players have combined for 13 Pac-12 Player of the Week awards this season.
