Phoenix Suns center Aron Baynes will miss Monday’s game against the Charlotte Hornets due a left calf strain.
The 32-year-old had just returned on Friday from a five-game absence for a separate injury, a right hip flexor strain. In that game, Baynes was on a minutes restriction of roughly 20 minutes, and wound up playing 24, finishing with 17 points, seven rebounds and an assist.
The Suns went 1-4 without Baynes during that stretch he was out and lost to the Dallas Mavericks on Friday. The team is now in Charlotte for the first game of their four-game road trip.
Baynes has been one of Phoenix’s best players this season, averaging 14.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game, all career-high numbers.
Originally acquired on draft night in July from the Boston Celtics, Baynes has been replacing the suspended Deandre Ayton in the starting lineup.
Without Ayton and Baynes, Frank Kaminsky has been taking the starting center spot. Reserve big man Cheick Diallo has played well behind Kaminsky, but he is out due to illness, leaving the Suns with two true bigs available in Kaminsky and starting power forward Dario Saric.
