The Arizona State Sun Devils are headed back to El Paso, Texas to play in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl against the Florida State Seminoles on New Year’s Eve, the school announced on Sunday.
It’s the third time in the last six seasons Arizona State has played in the bowl and seventh time overall. This is Florida State’s third Sun Bowl appearance, but first in more than five decades.
The Sun Devils fell to NC State 52-31 the last time they played in the bowl in 2017.
Arizona State has a 3-2-1 record in the Sun Bowl.
It was a roller coaster season for the Sun Devils, who finished with a 7-5 overall record and a 4-5 mark in the Pac-12.
After getting off to a hot start, the Sun Devils dropped four straight before ending the regular season with a upset victory against Oregon, who was ranked No. 6 at the time, and a win against rival Arizona.
Florida State went 6-6 overall and 4-4 in the ACC, firing head coach Willie Taggart on Nov. 3 after going 9-12 and replacing him with interim Odell Haggins.
The Seminoles announced on Sunday they have hired former Arizona State offensive coordinator Mike Norvell as the new head coach.
Norvell spent the last four seasons with Memphis. He guided the team to three straight American Athletic Conference Championship games, winning the title in 2019.
The game starts at 12 p.m.
