Dec 8, 2019, 3:37 PM
The Wyoming Cowboys and Georgia State Panthers will clash in the Nova Home Loans Arizona Bowl at Arizona Stadium in Tucson on New Year’s Eve.
The bowl will mark the first meeting between the two teams.
Tra Barnett is the focal point of the Georgia State offense, leading the Sun Belt Conference with 1,389 yards in 2019.
Wyoming counters with Xazavian Valladay, who finished second in the Mountain West Conference with 1,061 yards.
Georgia State finished the regular season with a 7-5 overall record and a 4-4 mark in the Conference.
The Cowboys, playing in their first bowl since 2017, had an identical record of 7-5 overall and 4-4 in the conference. Wyoming played well at home, going unbeaten in six games, but struggled mightily on the road with only one victory in six tries.
It’s the first trip to Tucson for Wyoming since taking on the Wildcats back in 1976. Georgia State, whose program began in 2010, has never played a game in Arizona.
Since debuting in 2015, the Arizona Bowl has featured a couple of good games.
Three of the four have ended in a one-score margin, with the last two going into overtime.
The game begins at 2:15 p.m.
