The Arizona Diamondbacks have checked in on veteran free agent reliever Craig Stammen, according to MLB Network’s Jon Morosi.
Stammen, 35, has 10 years of major league experience. He has been with the San Diego Padres the past three seasons, posting a 3.06 ERA in 241.1 innings. In 2019, Stammen had a 3.29 ERA in 82.0 innings with a WHIP of 1.159.
The D-backs’ bullpen in 2019 was full of ups and downs, with the closer to start the year, Greg Holland, being released midway through the season. Archie Bradley took over the role in a strong second half of the season after struggling immensely in May and June.
Bradley is back and under contract, as are Andrew Chafin, Matt Andriese, Silvino Bracho, Taylor Clarke, Stefan Crichton, Yoan Lopez and Jimmie Sherfy. Chafin pitched in a team-high 77 games, with Lopez behind him at 70.
On Monday the D-backs signed reliever Junior Guerra to a one-year deal.
