The Arizona Diamondbacks made a splash on the free agent market by reportedly signing LHP Madison Bumgarner to a 5-year deal worth $85 million.
Bumgarner spent his entire career in the Bay with the San Francisco Giants after being drafted 10th overall in the 2007 MLB Draft. During his time in San Francisco, he tallied three World Series over his 11 years, including earning the World Series MVP in 2014.
He finished his time in orange and black ranked among the best.
Here’s what Bumgarner’s MLB career looks like by the numbers:
3.13
In 289 games over 11 years, Bumgarner amassed a 3.13 ERA. His lowest ERA came in 2016 when he went 15-9 and posted a 2.74 ERA while last season was the highest of his career (3.90). He’s pitched 1,846 innings with a 1.111 career WHIP.
119
Bumgarner’s tallied a lot of wins over the years — especially when the Giants really needed him, including Game 7 of the 2014 World Series against the Kansas City Royals.
1,794
Over the course of his career, Bumgarner has 1,794 strikeouts. That number ranks second all-time in Giants franchise history. Last season, Bumgarner posted 203 strikeouts in 34 games.
4
Bumgarner has been elected to the All-Star game 4 times in his career from 2013 to 2016.
105
While Bumgarner joins the D-backs for his help in the rotation, the team’s also picking up a solid hitter — having collected 105 base hits in his career.
Similar to former D-backs’ pitcher Zack Greinke, Bumgarner is good at the plate for a pitcher. Last season, he recorded 8 hits, 4 runs and 2 home runs in 63 at bats. His career batting average stacks up to a .177 in 334 at bats.
