Christmas came early for Arizona State Sun Devils freshman walk-on linebacker Case Hatch on Tuesday.

During a team meeting, the Gilbert native was not only named special teams player of the week, but head coach Herm Edwards also gave Hatch a full scholarship.

Hatch received his award to the applause of his teammates at the front of the room just in front of the projector screen that read “special teams player of the week.”

But that’s when Edwards revealed what he had in store for the former Perry High School Puma.

“Because you’re so good — You know what? You get two presents,” Edwards said as he turned Hatch around to show him the screen that now read “awarded a full scholarship.”

That was met with a thunderous celebration from the team and a big congratulatory hug from Edwards.

In 12 career games for Arizona State, Hatch has amassed 11 total tackles (nine solo) and one forced fumble.

The Sun Devils will play their final game of the 2019 campaign against the Florida State Seminoles in the Sun Bowl on Dec. 31.
