Stephen A. Smith proposes Suns trade Devin Booker to Lakers. That’s the joke

Jan 14, 2020, 12:00 PM | Updated: 12:08 pm

Networks don’t want to give streakers during football games the gratification of appearing on live television.

In internet word spaces like these, we likewise don’t want to give hot-take sports talking heads attention all the time.

But sometimes we have to because it makes us laugh.

Here was Stephen A. Smith during ESPN’s “First Take” on Tuesday telling co-arguing sports man Max Kellerman how the Los Angeles Lakers should improve by trading reserve forward Kyle Kuzma.

“I think they need a marksman,” Stephen A. Smith said. “If I could package Kuzma with a multitude of players and even a pick and I can get myself Devin Booker to join Anthony Davis and LeBron James, would I do that? Hell yes.”

Let us pull ourselves off the floor and take a few deep breathes after laughing so much to explain why trading the face of the franchise to make the division rival unbeatable for the foreseeable future in exchange for a late first-round pick and a scorer averaging the same 13.2 points as the team’s current non-scoring point guard Ricky Rubio is not a good plan.

Also, it doesn’t work salary-wise!

“You know you can’t get Devin Booker from what the Lakers have,” said Kellerman, who is somehow the voice of reason here.

Stephen A.’s proposition, as you can imagine, went over well on Twitter.
