The Arizona Diamondbacks traded long reliever Matt Andriese to the Los Angeles Angels for right-handed minor-league pitcher Jeremy Beasley, the team announced Tuesday.
The 24-year-old Beasley spent last year starting for Double- and Triple-A teams. He went 6-7 in 22 starts for the Mobile Bay Bears, finishing with a 4.06 ERA and 1.40 WHIP.
Beasley, who has yet to debut in the majors, also started three games for the Salt Lake Bees in the Pacific Coast League, allowing 19 hits and 12 earned runs over 13.2 innings.
The Diamondbacks reached a one-year contract agreement with the 30-year-old Andriese worth $1.4 million just last Friday. That avoided arbitration.
Arizona acquired Andriese from the Tampa Bay Rays via a midseason trade in 2018, and he struggled in 14 appearances that year, posting a 9.00 ERA.
This past season, the relief pitcher recovered to some degree. He appeared 54 times (70.2 innings) and finished with a 4.71 ERA and 1.40 WHIP. Andriese (5-5) struck out 79 batters and walked 27 more.
