Report: Broncos ’95 percent’ confident Manning will sign

Mar 12, 2012, 3:26 AM | Updated: 4:27 am

While it seemed just a few short hours ago that the Arizona Cardinals were the front-runners to sign Peyton Manning, a report from Denver broadcaster Vic Lombardi has thrown the entire situation into a spiral.

“Just heard from my peoples. Broncos now 95% confident he’ll sign with Denver. Their number, not mine,” [Lombardi tweeted.]

Lombardi tweeted a few more times after the aforementioned tweet and said that Manning contacted the Broncos after leaving Arizona. He finished his night by saying that he would not tweet any more numbers and that the Broncos wanted to be respectful of the process.

However, hope may have again been restored by Michelle Beisner, a reporter for NFL Network who has been tracking the entire Manning saga from its inception. She sent a few tweets from her Broncos source, including this one:

Broncos source confirms with me, they have not been in talks with Manning at all today (Sun). Respectful of his wishes and this process.

While these two reports clearly contradict each other, if Manning did in fact contact the Broncos, no one has any idea what he might have said. Lombardi had been bashing Phoenix as a sports town earlier in the day and the Cardinals’ offensive line, but then said that head coach Ken Whisenhunt and Manning had played a lot of golf together.
