Sherfy, Beer, Tomas among D-backs non-roster spring training invitees

The best part of the year is right around the corner.

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced Tuesday that pitchers and catchers will report to spring training on Feb. 12.

On Feb. 17, the full squad will arrive for the first full team workout. Feb. 22 will be the first game of spring training.

The D-backs announced 22 non-roster invitees for spring training with familiar names. Jimmie Sherfy fans will be excited to see him back in an Arizona uniform after he was designated for assignment earlier this month.

He was on a list that included Yasmany Tomas, D-backs 2017 first-round pick Pavin Smith, and Seth Beer, who was part of the Zack Greinke trade with the Houston Astros.

Twelve pitchers — nine right-handed and three left-handed — were invited, as were eight position players and two catchers, which includes Daulton Varsho, one of the top catcher prospects in baseball.
