As usual, the NBA players know and recognize Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker as an All-Star.

Booker finished fourth amongst player voting for the Western Conference backcourt, behind only starters Luka Doncic and James Harden, along with Damian Lillard.

That put Booker ahead of players that are assumed to make it in over him like Donovan Mitchell of the Jazz and Oklahoma City’s Chris Paul.

Booker finished eighth in the fan vote and was not one of the three West guards to receive a vote from the media. That added up his weighted score as sixth.

Now that Booker is not a starter, he can make it as a reserve as either one of the two guards or two additional wildcards.

His head coach Monty Williams believes he should be in.

“I’ve done a lot to promote our guy, and I wouldn’t do it if I feel like he wasn’t worthy of it,” he said before Wednesday’s game. “It’d be hard-pressed to name another guard that’s that much better than Devin, that is that efficient and plays the way he plays and means as much to our team and where we are as much as Devin.”

Booker will find out his fate next Thursday on Jan. 30 when the reserves are revealed on TNT. If he makes it, Booker will be drafted to either Giannis Antetokounmpo or LeBron James’ team, the captains (and leading vote-getters) from each conference the Thursday after on Feb. 6.

The case for Booker is there across the board. He’s averaging 26.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game while shooting 50.8% from the field and a ridiculous 56.8% on two-pointers. All of this is in a season where Booker has the Suns on pace to finish with far more wins than they ever have had, currently at 18 after failing to reach 25 each of the last four seasons.
