It appears Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury is adding a quarterback from one of his old stomping grounds.

The Cardinals have signed former Winnipeg Blue Bombers QB Chris Streveler to a futures deal, confirms 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sport Station’s John Gambadoro. The team made the addition official Thursday.

Per Gambadoro, Streveler would most likely serve as the team’s third-string quarterback with the former Blue Bomber playing in a Taysom Hill-type role.

The Cardinals weren’t the only NFL team in on Streveler, as the Miami Dolphins also looked in to signing the quarterback.

According to TSN’s Dave Naylor, the deal includes a guarantee of about $100,000. Naylor adds that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers also brought in Streveler for a workout.

In two seasons as a member of the Blue Bombers, Streveler played in 35 games, completing 242 of his 374 attempts (65.5%) for 2,698 yards, 19 touchdowns and 19 interceptions. Last season, the QB set a career-high in yards (1,564) but scored through the air just eight times to go along with 14 picks. The year prior he had an 11-5 touchdown-to-interception ratio.

On the ground the QB ran the rock 204 times for 1,167 yards (17.4 yards per carry) and 22 touchdowns. He accumulated back-to-back seasons of at least 10 scores on the ground.

Behind the play of Streveler, the Blue Bombers took home the 2019 Grey Cup with a 33-12 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

Streveler issued a goodbye to Winnipeg on Monday morning following the team’s decision to release the QB so he could pursue NFL opportunities.

“Thank you so much to the Bombers, the city of Winnipeg and all the fans across Manitoba,” Streveler wrote in a statement. “I’m really going to miss it up there, but I’ll be around! The memories and friendships made will last forever. Thanks for everything the last two years, it was an amazing ride!”

Streveler and Kingsbury will undoubtedly have one thing in common, as the head coach was a former Blue Bomber himself, playing one season in Winnipeg before calling it quits.

Streveler played college ball for the Minnesota Gophers as a wide receiver and quarterback before transferring to the South Dakota Coyotes where he was the team’s starting QB from 2016-17.

Outside of the Streveler signing, the Cardinals have two quarterbacks under contract in Kyler Murray and Drew Anderson. Murray’s backup from last season, Brett Hundley, is an unrestricted free agent.
