Wilmer Flores, an infielder who spent last season with the Arizona Diamondbacks, has agreed to a contract with the San Francisco Giants, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
In his one year with Arizona, Flores hit .317 with nine home runs and 37 RBIs in 265 at-bats.
He spent most of his time at second base but played first base during 16 games, four of which were starts.
Last season, Flores was paid $3.75 million by the Diamondbacks. The team turned down his $6 million option for 2020, which came with a $500,000 buyout, according to the Associated Press.
The Giants will sign Flores to a multi-year contract, according to Passan.
He is expected to play second base or a utility role.
Flores spent the first six years of his career with the New York Mets. He has a career batting average of .268 with 77 home runs and 290 RBIs.
Ketel Marte is in line to take Flores’ time at second base for the D-backs. Marte is expected to be the full-time second baseman with Arizona’s signing of center fielder Starling Marte.
