National Signing Day ain’t what it once was thanks to the early signing period that usually includes most of the big college football recruiting surprises.
But there are exceptions.
Missouri Tigers head coach Eliah Drinkwitz, in his first year at Mizzou after spending 2019 with Appalachian State, got a taste of victory on the recruiting trail for the first time as an SEC head coach Wednesday.
Watching 3-star cornerback recruit Ennis Rakestraw reveal his commitment to Mizzou, Drinkwitz goes from library-appropriate levels of calm to insanely out of control.

Why might a head coach lose it like that?
Well, we’re just guessing that Rakestraw isn’t your typical 3-star recruit. The cornerback out of Duncanville, Texas, took visits to Alabama and Texas with 88% of his 247 Sports crystal ball predictions landing him with the Crimson Tide.
Nope.
He’s off to begin the Drinkwitz era in Columbia, Mo. Safe to say his head coach will have his back.
It’s a significant get for Drinkwitz beyond what Rakestraw can bring on the field, too.
Beating ‘Bama for a recruit out of a high school football hotbed in Texas shouldn’t be taken lightly. For an up-and-coming head coach, it means quite a bit — if you didn’t notice.
