D-backs INF Eduardo Escobar OK after offseason hospitalization

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. —  Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Eduardo Escobar on Monday said that a fainting spell in December led to a short hospitalization, adding that he is healthy and ready to start spring training.

Escobar joined the rest of the D-backs position players for the first day of organized spring practice and confirmed reports from December that he suffered a health scare. He was in good spirits as he sat in the Salt River Fields clubhouse preparing for the first practice of 2020.

“There’s nothing to worry about, everything turned out OK. He’s here now ready to play and perfectly healthy,” Escobar said through a translator.

The third baseman said he was sitting at home with his family when he fainted on Dec. 23. He woke up in the hospital and was diagnosed with brain swelling, he said.

“After he fainted, when he came to again, he saw himself in the hospital and was like ‘What’s going on?'” he said through translation.

Escobar was back home and healthy enough to thank fans for the thoughts, prayers and concerns on Dec. 27.

“I want to thank all my family, my friends and my fans for their sincere appreciation and concern for me and their good prayers, I am already super stable at home and now I rest and continue the preparation for this 2020 DBACKS season 💪💪,” said the tweet in Spanish.
