ASU punter Turk benches more at NFL Combine than Cardinals’ Jones

Talk about kicking records.

At the NFL Scouting Combine on Thursday, Arizona State punter Michael Turk posted 25 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press.

Historically, his number is tied for second among special teamers since 2006. Navy longsnapper Joe Cardona has the most at 30 reps.

Turk even out-bench-pressed Arizona Cardinals OLB Chandler Jones’ number from his combine. Jones posted 22 reps in 2012.

During his junior season at ASU, Turk averaged 46.0 yards per punt on 59 punts, which ranked 11th in the FBS and led the Pac-12.

Turk is the only punter at the combine from the Pac-12. The SEC has four of the seven punters including South Carolina’s Joseph Charlton, Texas A&M’s Braden Mann, Auburn’s Arryn Siposs and Florida’s Tommy Townsend.

As far as other special team players, UCLA kicker J.J. Molson is the other player from the Pac-12 in the group.

Punters and special teams will show off the rest of their skills on Friday at the combine.
