Jamarye Joiner, the Arizona Wildcats’ leading receiver in 2019, is out indefinitely with a foot injury that the Arizona Daily Star reports could be a Jones fracture.

The rising sophomore was wearing a boot on Monday for the Wildcats’ first full practice of the spring.

“We’ll see what happens,” head coach Kevin Sumlin said. “He has a foot injury.”

Joiner, out of local Cienega High School, entered his freshman season last year as a quarterback. As starter Khalil Tate and backup Grant Gunnell battled for snaps in camp, he converted to receiver.

That turned out to be a key move both for Joiner and Arizona. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound player led the Wildcats with 552 receiving yards on 34 catches, taking five of those for touchdowns.

Joiner finished off his 2019 season with a 140-yard, two-score performance against rival Arizona State.

If his injury is indeed a Jones fracture, Joiner is not expected to miss games in the 2020 season.

Arizona, which is installing a new offense led by first-year defensive coordinator Paul Rhoades this spring, will hold its spring scrimmage on April 4.
