D-backs cut spring training roster by 4, top-10 prospect goes to minors

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced on Friday that four players were reassigned elsewhere from the major league spring training roster, leaving 56 players in camp.
Joel Payamps, Emilio Vargas and Bo Takahashi were option to the Reno Aces. J.B. Bukauskas was reassigned to minor league camp. All are right-handed pitchers.
Bukauskas is the D-backs’ No. 10 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. He had one scoreless inning of work this spring. In 2019, he pitched 22 outings and had a 5.44 ERA between two Double-A teams after being traded to Arizona in the Zack Greinke deal.
Payamps spent 2019 mostly between Double-A and Triple-A, where he had a combined 3.89 ERA, but also pitched two games for the D-backs, allowing two earned runs in four innings pitched. This spring, he pitched two scoreless innings.
Vargas had a 3.84 ERA between the Rookie-level Arizona League and Double-A Jackson last season. He pitched 20 total outings, all starts, registering a 1.13 WHIP.
Takahashi had two scoreless innings of work this spring and put up a 3.72 ERA in Double-A last season.
