The Phoenix Suns have released two-way point guard Jared Harper, their G League affiliate’s leading-scorer, according to The Athletic’s Gina Mizell.

Harper, a rookie out of Auburn and regular G League starter, was not with the NAZ Suns for a scheduled Wednesday night game against the Salt Lake City Stars. He was officially listed as out due to personal reasons.

The game was postponed shortly after it was learned that the Utah Jazz, the Stars’ NBA club, had learned that center Ruby Gobert tested positive for coronavirus. Players on the Stars had been in close proximity to Gobert in recent weeks.

The NBA and G League later suspended all play indefinitely.

Mizell reported that Harper’s release is not related to the precautions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Harper averaged 20.8 points, 5.7 assists and 1.0 steal in 33 games with the NAZ Suns this season. The point guard shot 41% overall and 36% from three-point range.

Harper, an undrafted free agent addition, spent limited time with Phoenix, appearing in eight minutes over three games in the NBA. He went 1-of-4 from the field and scored two points.

He accounted for one of two two-way player spots. Two-way players can spend limited time with their NBA affiliates each year and do not count toward the 15-man roster maximum.
