The Arizona Cardinals’ trade of David Johnson on Monday morning was notable. It became even more notable when news broke that Johnson was going to Houston for DeAndre Hopkins.

Hopkins, 27, is a three-time All-Pro selection and four-time Pro Bowler who had 1,165 receiving yards last season. He has three straight 1,000-yard seasons and five total in his seven-year NFL career. He has played at least 15 games in every season since he entered the league.

The outgoing player for the Cardinals, Johnson is a different story. He was a Pro Bowler and All-Pro in 2016 after he had 1,239 rushing yards and 879 more receiving yards.

But Johnson played only one game in 2017 and has since averaged 3.7 yards per rushing attempt, down from his 4.4 average his first two years in the league.

So it makes sense that some in Arizona were excited about the seemingly lopsided deal that also included a swap of draft picks going each way, but Johnson himself seemed excited, too:

His now-former teammates had things to say, as well. Chase Edmonds had a field day:

Chandler Jones weighed in:

Kenyan Drake, who took snaps from Johnson last season and was transition-tagged on Monday, was as shocked as we all were:

Former Cardinals DB Tyrann Mathieu, who has also played for the Texans, seemed disappointed:

And then, inevitably, fans and media gave their opinions.
