As the world struggles to contain the spread of the coronavirus, Arizona Diamondbacks star Ketel Marte is trying to help people in his hometown.

Marte posted a video to Instagram of himself passing out food and supplies in the city of Nizao in the Dominican Republic.

He added a note at the end of the video in Spanish, which more or less translates to: “In these difficult moments that we as an entire world are living, we have to be united and help one another and comply with the quarantine and only go out if you have to do something or need something.

“This is indispensable, please, for everyone, to let this pass soon. STAY IN YOUR HOUSE.”

On Sunday morning, Dominican Republic Minister of Public Health Rafael Sánchez Cárdenas reported there are 719 confirmed cases of the coronavirus and 28 deaths from it in the country, according to Dominican Today.

Born in Nizao, Marte was signed by the Seattle Mariners as an international free agent about two months before his 17th birthday in 2010.

In the Instagram video, Marte is shown wearing a face mask and approaching people in doorways to hand them bags of supplies.

It’s another generous action by athletes who are trying to help people get through this tough time.
