Rookie forward Tariq Owens of the Phoenix Suns will face guard Darius Garland representing the Cleveland Cavaliers in NBA 2K20 on Friday night.
The game will air at 2 p.m. on Twitch but can be heard with play-by-play action from Jon Bloom and Tim Kempton at 6 p.m. on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station, following the conclusion of Burns & Gambo.
Owens will become the eighth person to man the sticks for the Suns since the coronavirus halted the NBA regular season and pushed Phoenix into the esports space.
Current Suns players Mikal Bridges, Ty Jerome and Frank Kaminsky along with Arizona Cardinals running back Chase Edmonds and former Cardinals safety Tony Jefferson have played as Phoenix. So have 2K gamers Antonio Saldivar and Curtis Lane.
During his rookie season, Owens has appeared in three games for the Suns. The undrafted player out of Texas Tech scored four points with three rebounds and a steal in 16 minutes with Phoenix.
In 40 G League games with the Northern Arizona Suns, the 24-year-old big man is averaging 10.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game.
