Receiver DeAndre Hopkins answered questions from fans and asked for food and sight-seeing suggestions in the Phoenix area during a live Instagram stream on Tuesday.
“AZ is one of the best organizations in the NFL,” he said when asked about joining the Arizona Cardinals. “A number of great things about them. A lot of veterans — a lot of my friends have played there have had a number of good things to say about the organization, the GM, the owner, the players in the locker room. It’s a classy organization.”
Hopkins is not officially a Cardinal because Arizona’s trade to acquire the three-time Pro Bowler from the Houston Texans has yet to become official.
The receiver and outgoing Cardinals running back David Johnson have to undergo physicals for the agreed-upon trade, though head coach Kliff Kingsbury said in a video conference Monday he is confident it will get done before the NFL Draft that begins April 23.
“We’ll get it done,” Kingsbury said. “Obviously the medical field and personnel have bigger fish to fry … I have no doubts it’ll be done before the draft.”
During Hopkins’ Instagram Live stream, the receiver said he was still in Houston and worked out while taking phone calls from former teammates, including quarterback Deshaun Watson and receiver Taiwan Jones.
He also asked fans about his soon-to-be home in the desert.
“What’s the best food in Arizona though? That’s what I need to know,” Hopkins said.
Commenters helped him figure out the go-to chicken spot — Lo-Lo’s Chicken and Waffles — so long as they have crispy chicken. Hopkins also wondered about local vegan restaurants and asked for sightseeing recommendations.
“I’m an outdoors guy,” he said. “I like fishing, hiking.”
He might like Arizona just fine.
