The good news: Kelly Oubre and Frank Kaminsky have recovered from their respective injuries, Phoenix Suns general manager James Jones said in a conference call Thursday.

The bad news: Not only is their rehab not over. Their rehab hasn’t even begun.

“Those two guys are through their healing process, but they haven’t had a chance to do the rehabilitation, the sports rehabilitation that would get them closer to playing, so they’re kind of stuck,” Jones said.

Oubre had surgery on his right meniscus after injuring his knee Feb. 24.

Kaminsky has been sidelined since Dec. 28 with a right patella stress fracture.

Additionally, forward Cam Johnson has recovered from mononucleosis, but that doesn’t require the same rehab and therapy the injuries to Oubre and Kaminsky do.

While Jones said those two have healed, the coronavirus has prevented trainers from working out with them and helping them get back into basketball shape.

“Kind of pressed the pause button on their recovery just because they can’t get on the court, which is the most important step in any athletes’ recovery,” Jones said.

Every player in the league is going to need time to get back in shape before game play can resume in earnest.

Head coach Monty Williams said this break in action is different than a lockout year because players can’t work out together or with their own trainers.

“During the lockout we still played,” Williams said.

“I went through a lockout as a player and as a coach, and I remember that the gyms were, even if it wasn’t the home gym, guys were playing ball and working out, running on tracks, and running stairs and things of that nature. This is totally different.”

Jones said that if the regular season resumes, the team hopes Oubre and Kaminsky will be able to see game action.
