Burns & Gambo preview Cardinals’ choices in first round of NFL Draft

What should you be keeping an eye on the most for the Arizona Cardinals as the 2020 NFL Draft gets underway on Thursday?

Arizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo run through a couple of different things to keep an eye on.

First up, Gambo preaches patience. Someone that the Cardinals love has a good chance of falling, according to Gambo. There are a handful of top-level prospects outside of quarterback Joe Burrow, defensive lineman Chase Young and linebacker Isaiah Simmons that could slip.

Whether that’s cornerback Jeff Okudah, defensive tackle Derrick Brown or offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs, look for a situation unfolding similar to Mel Kiper Jr.’s latest mock draft for ESPN that has three quarterbacks going in the top-7. In that scenario, Wirfs is the pick for Arizona.

But what if wide receiver and former Kyler Murray teammate at Oklahoma CeeDee Lamb is on the board?

“I know he’s in the mix but the only way that they get CeeDee Lamb is if some of the top defensive players — Okudah, Brown, Chase Young — are off the board and two of the top offensive linemen,” Gambadoro notes.

How about trading down?

“I think that should be the priority,” Gambo says. “I think that that’s what they would love to do. They don’t have a second-round pick in this draft. I do think the priority is try to trade down, move down six, seven, eight, nine spots (and) get a second-round pick.”
