Seahawks learn ‘Greg Olsen’ isn’t the great teammate they thought

You always think you know someone until you meet them in person.

Although the coronavirus isn’t allowing real life meetings, NFL teams are pushing forward into next season with video calls, and the Seattle Seahawks might’ve been pumped to welcome new tight end Greg Olsen to their virtual locker room Thursday.

But all it took was one video conference call to get a bad taste in their mouth about GM John Schneider acquiring the former Carolina Panthers great.

Olsen said a lot in a few minutes to make the Seahawks question his spotless reputation that he built in Carolina.

“Russ, I love you,” he said to Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson. “I mean, I love you. I love the way you play, I love the way you handle yourself as a human being. Let’s make some babies.

“Schotty (OC Brian Schottenheimer), I came here to catch some balls. That’s what I hope to do. In fact, what I did mostly for Carolina is I drew up a lot of my own plays. So I’m going to be adding a lot to the playbook.”

Olsen advised the Seahawks not to use him in max protection. He’s not about it.

He’s also not about fellow tight end Luke Willson.

“I think we got a good tight end group. Luke, Luke Willson, the only thing I want to tell you is you got to tamp that (expletive) down, OK? That’s not how I handle myself, alright?” Olsen said. “I don’t know what you do in the offseason up there in Canada, but cut your (expletive) hair and let’s play some football.”

Olsen said he is excited to only play 12 snaps a game while splitting duties in the broadcast booth. He also is not concerned about his physical upkeep despite concerns expressed from head coach Pete Carroll.

“Oh, no, the core is fine, the core is fine,” he said.
